FAQ
What experience or qualifications do I need to become a PreschoolRock.com writer?
No experience is necessary to become a PreschoolRock.com. Our only requirements are that applicants have a passion for writing, a love of children, a dedication to meeting weekly deadlines, and a strong desire to learn. It is highly recommended that applicants be technically savvy and have extensive experience using the internet. It is very helpful if applicants are familiar with Web writing and HTML.
Do I need any special computer equipment to be a PreschoolRock.com writer?
Writers must have a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a Web browser other than Safari (Internet Explorer is preferred). We also recommend that writers have a headset and Skype (which is free) for participating in periodic teleconferences.
Do I need to install anything on my computer?
No. Everything is on our server.
Can I hold a full-time job and be a PreschoolRock.com writer?
Yes! Since writers work from home, they have the flexibility of setting their own schedules. Many of our writers work on their websites in the evening after their children are in bed.
Is there any cost to become a writer for PreschoolRock.com?
There are NO COSTS to you unless you'd like to purchase a headset for participating in our teleconferences we have on occasion. Headsets cost about $20 depending on the model and style you chose, and can be purchased at places such as Target, WalMart, and Amazon.
How much time must I commit?
As a Web writer for PreschoolRock.com, you can expect to spend 4 - 5 hours a week working on your website, but it will vary from person to person. Your personal situation, learning curve, dedication, and passion for your topic will all have an impact. Setting up your website may take you a little longer since you will be learning along the way. Once you have it setup, you will have learned how to use the cms and can focus more on writing content.
Are there any deadlines I'm required to meet?
During "site prep" (the 30 days during which you set up your site), you will be required to meet weekly deadlines. These help you to stay on track and make it to launch. Once your site is launched, you must write at least one article per week to remain a writer for PreschoolRock.com. If you want to receive compensation, you must write thirty articles per quarter.
Once I apply, how long will it take to find out if I've been accepted?
We do our best to review applications immediately and respond to applicants within two weeks. There are instances where we have a writer currently building their site. In these instances, applications are placed in a "pending" file. If the topic becomes available, we will review the applications in the pending file and contact the best candidate.
What are my chances of having my site launched after the 30-day period?
Writers who are eager to learn, committed to meeting weekly deadlines during "site prep", and follow the advice of the editors should have no problem reaching the launch date. PreschoolRock.com is as committed to having you a part of the editorial team as you are committed to being a part of it.
Would I be an employee of SchoolRock, Inc. or an independent contractor?
All writers and editors are independent contractors.
How do PreschoolRock.com writers get paid?
Please refer to our writer compensation page for details.
How much money will I make as a PreschoolRock.com writer?
That all depends on you! If you meet the minimum article requirement of thirty articles per quarter, you will make a minimum of $100 a quarter. And, unlike other networks, we share our revenue with our writers. So if the revenue for the network is higher than the $100 minimum for the quarter, you will get a share of the network's revenue. See writer compensation.
In addition, all writers qualify for making 30% of individual ad sales. When writers refer a business to PreschoolRock.com and that business purchases advertising, the writer gets 30% of that sale.
How is PreschoolRock.com different from other networks?
We Share Our Profits with Our Writers
PreschoolRock.com offers ad revenue share -- something you will rarely see on other networks. (Actually, if you know of one, tell us!) Typically, networks pocket all of their ad revenue and only pay you a very small amount per article, which usually means the writer gives up their rights to the article and the network can keep making money off of you even when you're long gone, or they don't pay anything at all. (A one-time fee for an article paid to the writer benefits the network, not the writer.)
We are a Cohesive and Supportive Team
PreschoolRock.com operates as a team with editors who are actively and regularly involved in the activities of the network, including training and support of its writers, and the growth and success of the network. There is nearly round-the-clock interaction between the writers and the editors, and between the writers. We do many collaborative projects and meet via teleconference at least once per month to discuss the network's activities. Being a part of PreschoolRock.com means being a part of a team, not just managing a website.
We Provide Comprehensive Guidance and Daily Interaction
We have a private writers' forum where writers and editors interact, brainstorm, share ideas, ask questions and keep abreast of the network announcements. We also have an "Admin site" which is a comprehensive website only accessible to our editorial staff where writers can go to view tutorials, read guidance materials and get step-by-step instructions for setting up and managing their websites.
We Provide Virtually Round-The-Clock Assistance
Assistance is available via Skype, private message, email and the writers' forum 7am to 9pm PST, 7 days a week. Writers are never left to figure things out on their own -- struggling for hours and feeling frustrated. An editor is always available to help. Our "policy" is if you can't figure it out within five minutes, leave it and contact an editor. Being a part of the PreschoolRock.com editorial team is about having fun, learning and improving your skills.
We Encourage You to Promote Yourself, Website, Business, Book or Product
Some networks don't allow you to promote yourself or your work, or they put limitations or restrictions on how you can promote yourself. (Sounds a little insecure, if you ask us!) At PreschoolRock.com we encourage you to promote yourself and your work! We want you to be successful.
We Offer Promotional Opportunities
PreschoolRock.com offers promotional opportunities (see below).
Who is responsible for getting sponsors and direct advertisers?
We have a sales staff and PR staff that help generate revenue for the network; however, all editorial staff may participate in getting sponsors and advertisers. In fact, it is to the writers' benefit to participate, as PreschoolRock.com compensates those who do. This allows writers to have an unlimited potential for earning income (i.e. the more effort you put into it, the more money you can make). Guidance materials and one-on-one assistance for securing sponsors and advertisers are provided to help with your success.
Are there promotional opportunities on PreschoolRock.com?
Yes! If you "shine" and have skills that may be valuable to the success and growth of PreschoolRock.com, you may be offered another position within our organization. All positions are filled from within. As with any promotion, the compensation is adjusted to suit the position.
What if I leave PreschoolRock.com, do I get to take my content with me?
Should you decide to leave the network, you may use your content elsewhere.
I have questions about becoming a PreschoolRock.com writer. Who may I contact?
If you've read all the information on the pages listed in the menu to the left and you still have a question, you may contact the Executive Editor by using our contact form.
